The buttons for adjusting the temperature do not work - that being said it turns on and is set to 72 degrees and the A/C works great and blows cold - it's just not possible to change some of the settings for it. No remote comes with it. I don't know if you could pair a remote if you purchased a new one or not. A great deal for someone needing a good window unit at a great price.
